Our Story

An eye for the well-chosen object.

Antique hand-painted Delft tile of a fox gazing up at a crow on a branch

Fox & Bird is an independent antiques and vintage gallery, run by people who care as much about the shelf an object sits on as the object itself. We approach dealing the way a curator approaches a collection — with a quiet insistence on quality, character, and the rightness of a thing in a room.

The name comes from a hand-painted Delft tile in our own collection: a fox looking up at a crow perched on a branch, a scene drawn from Aesop's fable. It is a small, exquisite object — modest in scale, rich in presence — and it captures something we believe about antiques generally: that the best pieces reward attention. The fox knows the value of what he cannot quite reach. So do we.

The best antiques are not found — they are recognised.

We deal in decorative antiques and vintage across a range of periods and materials: glass and crystal, tableware and barware, mirrors and small furniture, garden pieces, curios and objects of curiosity. We source from auction, private collections, and dealers we have known for years, and we select with an editor's eye. Condition matters to us, but so does character — a piece need not be perfect to be beautiful, and age-related wear is part of the story rather than a defect.

There is no online checkout. The gallery exists to show you what we have; everything else happens by conversation. Browse the collection, and when something catches your eye, get in touch. We are always glad to hear from people who love old things.

How we work

Three quiet principles

I

Chosen, not amassed

We buy a fraction of what we see. Each piece earns its place on character, condition and the quiet authority it brings to a room.

II

Honestly described

Antiques are sold as seen. We note wear and restoration plainly, and will send further photographs or condition reports on request.

III

Bought by conversation

There is no checkout. Enquire about a piece and we will confirm availability, hold it while you decide, and arrange collection or delivery.
