Terms & Conditions
Fox & Bird is a catalogue and gallery — there is no online checkout. These terms set out how enquiries, reservations and sales work.
1. About these terms
These terms and conditions govern your use of the Fox & Bird website and any purchase or reservation made following an enquiry. By using this site or contacting us to purchase, you agree to be bound by them. We are Fox & Bird, an independent antiques and vintage dealership registered in England and Wales.
These terms do not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
2. No online sales — enquiries only
This website is a catalogue. No sale is completed through the site itself, and no checkout, payment facility, or automated booking system is provided. All prices and availability are indicative; an item is available only if confirmed as such when you make an enquiry.
If you wish to purchase or reserve a piece, please contact us by email or telephone. A sale is formed only when we have confirmed availability, agreed terms, and received payment in cleared funds.
3. Descriptions, condition and authenticity
We describe every piece as honestly and accurately as we can. All items are antique or vintage and are sold as seen. Age-related wear, patina, minor chips, fading, or restoration are inherent to objects of age and are not considered defects unless specifically stated otherwise. Such character is, in our view, part of what makes old things worth owning.
Dimensions, weights, and colours given on the site are approximate. Photographs are taken in good faith but may not reproduce every tone or nuance of surface exactly, and we recommend requesting additional images before committing to a purchase if you are concerned about a particular detail.
Where we attribute a piece to a maker, period, or place of origin, we do so on the basis of our knowledge and experience, but — unless supported by documentation stated in the listing — such attributions are our opinion rather than a guarantee. We will always share what provenance we have.
4. Pricing
All prices are in pounds sterling (GBP) and are inclusive of VAT where applicable. Prices shown on the site are subject to change without notice and may differ from those previously quoted. Delivery, packing, and shipping costs are not included in the listed price and will be quoted separately at the time of enquiry.
5. Reservations and payment
We are happy to place a piece on reserve for a reasonable period while you consider a purchase or arrange collection. A reservation does not constitute a sale and may lapse if we do not hear from you within the agreed period.
Payment is due in full before an item leaves our care. We accept bank transfer (BACS) and other methods confirmed on invoice. Title in the goods does not pass to the buyer until payment has cleared in full.
6. Collection and delivery
We encourage collection by appointment, which also gives you the opportunity to view the piece in person before it travels. Collections must be arranged in advance; we do not offer a drop-in service.
Where delivery or shipping is required, we will obtain a quote for you and confirm all costs before proceeding. We work only with carriers we consider suitable for antiques and fragile objects, but we cannot accept responsibility for damage caused by third-party couriers once a piece has left our care in good condition. Risk passes to the buyer on collection from our premises or on handover to the courier, whichever is earlier.
Overseas buyers are responsible for all import duties, taxes, and customs clearance in their country of destination.
7. Returns
Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by these terms. Under UK consumer law, distance selling regulations may apply to sales concluded entirely by correspondence or telephone; please ask if you are unsure of your rights before purchasing.
Because every piece we sell is a unique antique or vintage object described in good faith, we ask you to enquire thoroughly and request further photographs or condition reports before committing to purchase. We cannot accept returns on the basis of a change of mind once a piece has been collected or delivered.
If an item arrives damaged in transit, or if you believe a piece has been materially misdescribed, please notify us in writing promptly on receipt, retaining all original packing. We will respond promptly and work with you to reach a fair resolution.
8. Intellectual property
All content on this website — including text, photography, design, and the Fox & Bird name and mark — is the property of Fox & Bird and is protected by copyright. You may not reproduce, copy, or distribute any part of this site without our prior written permission. Images of our stock are made for the purpose of showcasing items for sale and may not be used for any other purpose.
9. Privacy and data
When you contact us by email, telephone, or through any enquiry form on this site, we will use the details you provide solely to respond to your enquiry and, where relevant, to process your purchase. We do not sell, rent, or pass your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
For full details of how we handle personal data, please see our Privacy Policy, available on request.
10. Liability
Fox & Bird takes reasonable care in the preparation of this website and in the description and handling of all items offered for sale. However, we cannot guarantee that the site will always be available, error-free, or that descriptions will be entirely free of inaccuracy, and we exclude liability for indirect or consequential loss to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising in connection with these terms or any purchase made through Fox & Bird shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
